About Us

A local family owned business, Big R Stores were originated in 1964 by Bill and Pat Crabtree. The first store opened in Watseka, Illinois. To date 12 stores have been opened in central Illinois and northern Indiana. 

The office and warehouse for Big R has remained in Watseka. Joining the company in 1973, Jerry L. Gibbs now provides leadership for the company.  New generations of Crabtree family continue to participate in the business.

Big R is a member of Mid-States Distributing Company of St. Paul, MN. The Mid-States Coop has over 600 stores throughout the United States and Canada.
